Neighborhood Brusselse Poort
The Brusselse Poort, also called Nieuwe Tweebergenpoort, was a city gate in the Dutch city of Maastricht. The gate was part of the second medieval city wall and was located at the end of Brusselsestraat, where it was the main entrance to the city from the west (Hasselt, Antwerp, Brussels). The original gate dated from the 14th century, but was renewed several times over the centuries. From the 17th century, the field side of the gate was partly hidden from view by the expansion of Maastricht's fortifications. The gate was demolished in 1868.
